Message from President Ames

Welcome to the latest issue of Horizons, which captures a year in the life of this lively and diverse intellectual community, and celebrates the generous donors that made Sage’s 2019 milestones possible.

In this online publication, you’ll meet professors and students who are excited about learning within and beyond the classroom; get a feel for the on-campus exhibitions, lectures, performances and other activities that complement Sage’s academic programs; and read about Sage’s influence locally and globally.

Earlier this year, U.S. News & World Report included Sage among the Top Performers on Social Mobility in the 2020 edition of its “Best Colleges” rankings. Sage is ranked 24th out of 381 national universities for success enrolling and graduating students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.

Like the stories in this issue of Horizons, this recognition from U.S. News is evidence that Sage is a place that creates opportunities. Whatever the background of our students, we keep classes small and the community tight and supportive to make sure that every student has the best chance of graduating into a fulfilling career and life.

My thanks to you for your role in Sage’s success − and ultimately, our students’ success − this year and every year. I’m grateful for your steadfast and generous engagement.
